I designed this app to teach younger generations how to play Euchre. Often times for Gen X and Baby Boomers, card games come naturally, even if you haven’t played it before. For many younger generations, I’ve found it doesn’t connect as quickly.

Euchre can be considered simple to learn, but very difficult to master. This app sets out to not only show you the rules, but also how you play, and the progressions you make to play.

I wanted to create an app that was inviting and fun. I wanted type that felt impactful and bold while not being to much to process. The navigation all derives from a drop down menu to make it simple to access everything at once.

History of Euchre

Euchre was invented in the 19th century in Alsace, Germany under the original name “Jucker” (Jucker meaning Jack). It was a game mostly played amongst farmers in Germany, which is why the Jacks in Euchre are referred to as Bauers (German for Farmer) or in North America Bowers. In Germany, Farmers were a highly respected working class, which is why the Jack is the highest rank.

Eventually, as Germans Immigrated to the United States, the game would be spread into predominantly German areas such as Northwest Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Detroit.
